Nu Skin MLM Review-Is There Money To Be Made In Beauty?

Most people would love the chance to be their own boss and work from home and there are so many opportunities to make this possible. Just a quick online search “make money from home” will come up with millions of results but who can you trust? If you are interested in the health and beauty niche and are looking into starting your own business, then the chances are you have heard about Nu Skin and their business opportunity. This Nu Skin MLM Review will reveal everything there is to know about this company and whether you can make money by joining their MLM program.

What Is Nu Skin MLM?

Nu Skin is a multi-level marketing (MLM) company that was founded in 1984 by Nedra and Blake Roney, Steve Lund, and Sandie Tillotson.

Based in Provo, Utah, United States, Nu Skin produces Personal care products and dietary supplements that are marketed worldwide by over 1.2 million distributors.

In 2018, the company reported revenue of $2.68 billion but it hasn’t all been completely legitimate and Nu Skin has had quite a bit of scrutiny over the years, which I reveal later in this review.

What Products Do Nu Skin Sell?

Nu Skin sells a large range of more than 200 health and beauty products which are marketed throughout the globe, these products fall into certain categories which are as follows…

  • Body Care
  • Face Care
  • Hair Care
  • Oral Care
  • Men’s Care
  • Moisturizers
  • Peels, Masks, and Scrubs
  • Cosmetics

Nu Skin also sells health supplements that are advertised to help improve your immune system, build healthy cells, increase energy, and promotes anti-aging Nu Skin have recently introduced their branded TR90 vegan-friendly protein shakes which helps with building strength and muscle.

Nu Skin MLM Business Opportunity

Nu Skin offers individuals the chance to start their own business by becoming a brand affiliate and promoting Nu Skin products.

With every sale achieved, the brand affiliate can earn a commission of between 5%-40% depending on how large your customer numbers will be.

There is the chance to make extra commissions by building a team and recruiting other members to join Nu Skin as brand affiliates and by doing this, you will be able to earn a commission based on their sales, which range from 2.5% to 10%, again depending on your team numbers.

Nu Skin Compensation Plan

Almost every MLM company has a compensation plan which shows the possible earnings in which you can make and most of these look very complicated and feels like you need a maths degree only to understand them.

The Nu Skin compensation plan seems straight forward and simple, so if you want to have a quick look through, you can download it from here ⇒ Nu Skin Compensation Plan

How To Sell Nu Skin Products

If you were to join Nu Skin as a direct seller, you will have a few ways to sell the products and the most common is to sell to friends and family members by hosting a selling party from home and showcasing the products with the hope of people buying some of the items.

This is the most common way to sell with most MLM opportunities but there are other options including selling through social media, promoting through a website, selling nu skin products on the likes of Amazon and eBay, or even the old way of door-to-door selling in your neighborhood.

How Much Does It Cost To Join Nu Skin MLM?

Nu Skin likes to point out that it is free to join as a member but there is a catch because they do not offer free samples, so if you want to promote the products by hosting a home party you will have to buy some of the products yourself, otherwise, it will be a bit embarrassing trying to sell something which you can not show to the potential buyer.

Nu skin offers a start-up pack but these packs will cost you more than $500 which in my mind is a bit crafty.

Can You Make Money With Nu Skin?

This is a hard question to answer because it depends on the person selling the products, how good they are at selling, and how big their network of contacts are.

But also baring in mind, over 1.2 million people are selling the same products, so there’s quite high competition if you wanted to sell online unless you know a lot about targeting potential buyers.

You could maybe make a few extra dollars in your free time by hosting a selling party from home, but you have to think about your initial investment (The $512 Start-Up Pack). You will have to make enough sales to cover this cost, but once you have sold over $500 worth of products, you should then start to see a profit.

But to sale over $500 worth of stock, you will have to know a lot of people to sell to and you will need repeat customers but again, there are so many people selling the same products on platforms such as Amazon and eBay, that your potential customers might see these and might be able to purchase the same product at a cheaper price.

On top of this, because this selling is based on MLM, it has been proven over and over again that over 99% of people selling MLM products make very little money, make no money or even make a loss and Nu Skin has even stated that 85% of their distributors made no money

So, as you can see, it can be very hard to make money by selling Nu Skin products as a brand affiliate.

Free to Join: It’s free to join Nu Skin as a member and I know that you will have to buy a start-up kit but it’s good because if you were to join, you can ask many questions, look into the opportunity more before you decide to sell, and this will cost you nothing.

Work Your Hours: As with all MLM opportunities, you can work in your free time

Long-Standing Business: Nu Skin was established in 1984, whereas most MLM companies fold within the first 5 years.

MLM Company: Not many people make money working for MLM companies, it has never been a profitable business, it’s only the ones on top making all the money.

Bad History:

  • Nu Skin had to pay costs of $47 million after being accused of operating a “pyramid scheme” by Chinese authorities and this was only in 2016.
  • After being found out for bribing a top Chinese official, Nu Skin was ordered to pay $750,000.
  • The company paid the FTC $1.5 million to settle allegations of unsubstantiated promotional claims and this was only 3 years after they were ordered to pay $1 million for similar claims.

Highly Competitive: As mentioned previously, there are more than 1.2 million distributors for Nu Skin, which makes selling the products very difficult, especially online.

You Can Lose Friendship: Nu Skin pushes their sellers into promoting the products to their social network contacts and I have read countless stories of broken friendships because people are over promoting products and in the end, they would be reported for spam or just blocked by their contacts.

Is Nu Skin MLM a Pyramid Scheme?

Even though the company has many signs of being a pyramid scheme, including the $47 million costs, I would not say that Nu Skin is a pyramid because it is not necessary to recruit other members, it is only highly recommended by the company.

You could only concentrate on selling the products if you wanted to, so there is no need to recruit others.

I would not even say that Nu Skin is a scam because they sell some good products but it is mainly the business model they use for selling (MLM) which makes it look like a scam.

Nu Skin MLM Review Conclusion

I know it sounds great to have your own business up and running but unfortunately, there are a lot of companies offering this opportunity but at the same time knowing that the chance of the person’s success is very low.

That’s the problem with MLM companies because they do not need to pay salaries, they just give people the sales talk (Hopes and Dreams), send them out to try and make sales, if they don’t make sales they don’t have to pay-out but Nu Skin would have already made sales because the distributor would have already purchased the start-up kit.

So if you think about it, Nu Skin has recruited over 1.2 million distributors and for example, if half of those bought the start-up kit, Nu Skin would have made over 300 million dollars in start-up kits alone!

I do not believe that it’s possible to make money selling for Nu Skin and unfortunately, this goes for most MLM companies, the money will always go to the company itself.

Final Thoughts.

The reason why I wrote this Nu Skin MLM review is to warn people about companies like this (Multi-Level Marketing), who target mostly housewives, military wives, single parents, they even target people who are desperate for work and this should be stopped.

I’ve researched and written plenty of MLM reviews, almost all of them are very negative and 99% of MLM distributors indeed fail to make money.

I do believe that it’s best to avoid all MLM’s but that doesn’t mean to say that you should give up on the idea of working for yourself.
